New publication in Nature Communications

We are happy to announce that our newest paper “Predator selection on phenotypic variability of cryptic and aposematic moths” has been published in Nature Communications.

The paper, whose first author was our former lab member Ossi Nokelainen and senior author was Johanna Mappes, used “state-of-the-art image analysis” to examine whether anti-predatory strategy (aposematism or camouflage) influences variation in wing patterns or colors in moths. Thousands of museum samples of 82 species were analysed, leading to a conclusion that camouflaged moths indeed are more variable in wing patterns than aposematic moths.
